Overload at All Kind: Animal Shelter Sees Large Influx of Animals

ABILENE, Texas ( KTAB/KRBC ) – All Kind Animal Initiative receives nearly 50 dogs in two days.

Over the past couple of days, All Kind Animal Initiative in Abilene has taken in around 48 new dogs at its facility. All Kind says the recent surge is largely due to what they are calling “puppy season,” which tends to occur during the summer months after the breeding season. Foster Rescue Coordinator with All Kind Kaylee Philipp says that in situations such as these, the organization will generally offer adoption deals to the public in order to reduce its numbers.

“So we do pop-up events outside of here and then, of course, our urgent list, they’re all reduced. And then the half off clear the shelters events, which we just kind of roll with the punches. So if that would be a way to help move animals, we will. We’ve done it. We will do it. Just anything to get them home and get them in a better place.”

To help you and the animal shelters in your town, All Kind says the best way to avoid unwanted litters is to make sure that your pets are spayed or neutered. All Kind is also asking for donations in the form of animal food and would appreciate anyone in the public who is interested in taking an animal for temporary foster care or permanently adopting a dog or cat.
