EULA, Texas ( KTAB/KRBC ) — Thanks to a $24 million bond, Eula Schools made improvements in response to community growth.

The bond was first approved by community voters in May 2023. It is the first bond of comparable size since 2000 when voters approved a similar bond to build the new high school. Assistant Superintendent of Finance Josh Fostel discussed the timing of this bond and its relevance to the voters.

“We realized with the situation state wise, with our taxes being compressed, that we had an opportunity to pass a bond and to upgrade a lot of our facilities and address a lot of different areas without a significant tax raise to our voters. So, we thought it was a good time. Our school board thought it was a good time to go to the voters,” Fostel shared.

With a bond of this size, the school was able to make changes in various areas. Some of the smaller improvements included a new ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) compliant playground for the elementary school and a new maintenance facility. Fostel highlighted some of the major focuses for these funds.

“Safety and security at our high school. Creating a safety corridor there at our entrance and reorganizing where our administration suite was. We just began renovation of our old high school and junior high area that’s going to become part of our elementary school. A new athletic facility for baseball, softball, and track that we feel is one of the top facilities in the state,” Fostel added.

Voters approve $24mil bond for Eula ISD, what’s next?

He explained that the diversity of their use of this bond is a result of school personnel and the school board listening to the needs of the ones who made these funds possible.

“We’re just so thankful to our community that supports public education,” Fostel shared. “We feel it’s very important to use their money correctly and deliver on what we said the bond was. We feel like we’re doing that right now. The reaction and the feedback that we’ve gotten has been all positive.”
