ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) — The West Texas Fair and Rodeo has become a tradition for many Taylor County residents. Although some aspects of the event remain consistent, this year, there are a few changes to be on the lookout for.

The bag policy has been updated this year. With a few exceptions, only clear bags will be permitted on the grounds. Additionally, Rochelle Johnson, vice president and general manager of the Taylor County Expo Center, mentioned that visitors should look forward to the inclusion of new entertainment acts.

“We’ll have concerts on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, and then again on Thursday. So that’s a that’s a new edition,” Johnson explained. “It’s cash at the gate, so if you’re buying tickets when you get here, it’s cash at the gate. We have implemented a clear-bag policy this year.”

Walking the grounds may also lead visitors to think there are new rides and old ones missing, but the truth, Johnson said, is it is just a new layout.

“It keeps it fresh. It’s funny to me because people will make a comment. Well, this ride wasn’t here this year. Well, yes, it was. It was just in a different place,” Johnson said.

Fairgoers can expect the food to remain the same, including fan favorites like fresh-squeezed lemonade, funnel cakes, and Aggie Fries.

“We’ve got all the great food that people expected. The fair with Aggie fries being the little lead on that,” Johnson added.

The grounds will open with free admission for Sneak-a-Peak on Thursday, September 5, from 5:00 to 11:00 p.m. Click here to view the full schedule of events .
