ABILENE, Texas ( KTAB/KRBC ) – Homecoming season is here for students across the Big Country and that means, dances, school spirit, football games and mums.

The floral decor Texas tradition has grown over the years, especially for one mom who turned her hobby for her daughter into a business. Allysun Gutierrez, owner of Design by DiAlly, has had her business for six years and is getting prepared for the homecoming season and the injuries that come with it.

“I’ve actually stapled my fingers, and I’ve also glued hot glue them. I’ve had hot glue land on me many times,” Gutierrez said.

Gutierrez sells mums in sizes ranging from small to large, but she told KTAB/KRBC that big sizes were not the norm when she was in school.

“It was just this little flower mom that was very similar to the flowers that we use here today, just this little flower mom. And it just had a little stringy ribbon going all the way down. There were no braids,” Gutierrez said.

Over her six years in business, not only has her clientele grown, but so has she. Recently going viral on TikTok for her mums, Gutierrez now ships throughout Texas, and some customers have driven in to pick up their orders.

Regardless of the hundreds of orders, Gutierrez, the same more regularly, says she still tries to keep every one of them true to the customer.

With that growth, she had to extend her inventory to her helping hands. When customer turned employee, Breana Lee joined to help create those special moments for students, standing out and being unique.

“Because everybody wants things customized. Nobody wants the same generic thing that everybody else has. And me, I’m very extra,” Lee said.

“The love that goes into it is it has to be something that I would wear. If it’s something that I would wear, that I know the student will wear it as well, and it’s going to look absolutely beautiful on them,”‘ Gutierrez said.

Gutierrez will also create a bigger mum to display and hang from the center of the gymnasium floor for Cooper and Abilene High School homecoming pep rallies. To learn more about her business, visit here .
