ABILENE, Texas ( KTAB/KRBC ) — On Thursday and Friday, Abilene ISD teachers received the surprise of their dreams.

The Abilene Education Foundation’s generous contribution of over $60,000 to 20 AISD Campuses during their annual grant parade is a testament to the impactful initiatives and programs being run. Adam Samuels, Executive director of the Abilene Education Foundation, highlighted that these grants fill in the gaps where the district may fall short, further enhancing the pride and accomplishment of the AISD community.

“We know that the district funding is not quite enough for the type of classroom we want our students in as parents or community members. And we like the opportunity to give additional money to these teachers who can take their students just a little,” Samuels said.

82 primary and secondary teachers received grant awards to help prepare their students for success. The grant in April Oposky’s classroom is furthering a program to help her students gain life skills.

“I think that that’s really important. It is talking about their future and them working in the community, getting jobs, living on their own, and all the things for a full life. I talk to my kids about it because I think that a lot of times our kids don’t get to hear people talk about their future,” Oposky said.
