ABILENE, Texas ( KTAB/KRBC ) – The Texas Veterans Commission (TVC) West Texas Road Show will launch once more, drawing hundreds of Veterans to West Texas, including Abilene, to help Veterans and their families secure long-term, meaningful employment.

The TVC Veterans Employment Services team’s Off-Base Transition Training (OBTT) West Texas Road Show travels to small cities and rural areas to provide Veterans with training for long-term employment.

OBTT’s goal is to prepare unemployed Veterans and their spouses to secure long-term, meaningful employment. The training program includes four workshops that cover resume writing, job fair strategies, networking, proper introductions with employers, and interview skills. This training also helps Veterans prepare for job fairs, including the upcoming state-wide Hiring Red, White & You! event in November.

The West Texas OBTT Road Show has the following scheduled stops:

    • October 7 – Amarillo
    • October 9 – Lubbock
    • October 11 – Wichita Falls
    • October 15 – Odessa
    • October 17 – Abilene
    • October 18 – San Angelo

The workshops are designed to help U.S. Military Veterans and their spouses reintegrate into civilian employment after leaving the military or serving in the National Guard and Reserves.

“We wanted to bring the highly effective OBTT classes out of the big city to smaller towns and more rural areas where there are significant concentrations of Veterans that might not otherwise receive the training,” said VES West Texas District Manager and Air Force Veteran Trey Hubbard.
