SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT — It’s like a homecoming for one of the coaches on the Illinois team in the Little League World Series. Damon Phelan was born in Harrisburg and grew up in Mechanicsburg where he played Little League in the late 1970s. He was a football star at Cumberland Valley High School and played in the 1985 Big 33 game.

Residents with curbside trash collection in five Centre County townships can now select what size refuse cart they want for when a new hauling contract goes into effect next year. Beginning April 1, 2025 Altoona-based Burgmeier's Hauling will replace Waste Management as the hauler for approximately 16,200 properties in Benner, College, Ferguson, Harris and Patton townships.
