Crankworx is many things to many people. Looking for a spectacle? Get your butt to Whip-Off! Want to hear some heartfelt stories? Deep Summer is here for you. Just trying to go on vacation and have no context for mountain biking ? Well, we’ve got you covered. But, amongst all that, there’s lots of gear testing and previewing going on here. Some of that coverage will trickle out in the next few months as embargos lift, and some of it is info that we can divulge now, about products that will be available in the future. That’s the situation with the new Sweet Protection Fixer 2vi Mips helmet.
Sweet Protection Fixer 2vi Mips in a Nutshell
Purpose: DH, Freeride, and Slopestyle brain protection
Stated Weight: 1059 g (carbon), 1237 g (composite)
Sizes Available: 53-62 cm heads
Available Spring 2025
What’s new?
The Fixer is Sweet Protection’s first dedicated full face bike helmet. They currently sell the convertible Arbitrator, which works as either a half-shell trail helmet, or a full face, and is technically DH certified. But the Fixer is a fully optimized lid for gravity riders. Sweet Protection developed it in conjunction with slopestyle legend Emil Johansson. It’s based on Sweet Protection’s 2vi platform (for more info on that, check out my review of the Bushwhacker Mips) . The priority is, of course, on safety, followed by comfort and field of view.
It uses a two-layer Mips system which Sweet Protection says has more travel than those found in other helmets. It also has a slick two-position visor, as well as a traditional D-ring closure with a clever magnet to secure the tail of the strap. Lots of nice little details here.
Options
The Fixer will be available both in full carbon, and composite constructions, with the carbon model weighing almost 200 g less, and costing $200 more ($600 vs $400). It will be available in five sizes, for 53-62 cm heads, and in a few colorways. Emil Johansson’s signature Red Bull colorway will, of course, not be available to the public.
I’ll have my own sample helmet in for long-term review soon, but I did get to handle and try on both the composite and full carbon versions. The first thing that stood out to me is the field of view. It’s wide. I don’t feel like I notice the edges of most full faces, but the Fixer feels seriously open. It’s a neat sensation, and makes a lot of sense for folks like Emil who need to set spins and flips and spot landings out of their peripheral vision. It’s also nice and light and comfy.
I wear a medium in most full face helmets, and the medium Fixer fit me well. It feels quite similar to a Medium Smith Mainline in terms of fit, but cradles my head more securely.
For Now
The Fixer won’t be available in most markets till spring. But Emil will be wearing it to compete in the Joyride Slopestyle this weekend, and I’ll be getting one for a long term review soon. I’m selfishly quite excited about this helmet. I appreciate Sweet Protection’s attention to detail and focus on safety, and the Fixer looks like a sleek, comfortable lid. There are also rumors of a new pedal-friendly full face from Sweet Protection, so keep an eye out!
