Biloxi Police shot and killed a man while responding to a call early Saturday, the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation said in a news release.

Jason Moore, 42, died after being transported to a hospital, said Bailey Martin, the press secretary for the Mississippi Department of Public Safety.

Officers responded to a call on Lakeview Drive and “encountered the subject who pointed a weapon towards the officers,” according to MBI.

Officers fired their weapons and hit Moore, police said. Martin said MBI was notified of the shooting about 1:15 a.m.

Moore sustained “serious injuries” and was transported to a hospital, MBI said Saturday morning. Martin said Saturday afternoon that Moore “succumbed to the injuries sustained in this incident.”

The officers involved were not injured.

It is unclear what call police were responding to. MBI did not say what kind of weapon Moore allegedly pointed toward police.

MBI investigates all officer-involved shootings in the state. The agency did not release more information but said authorities were gathering evidence and would share findings with the Attorney General’s Office.
