Three South Mississippi kitchens fail health inspections, two with repeat violations

Only three restaurants and kitchens in South Mississippi were cited for health issues over the last three weeks, but two of them had repeat issues that weren’t corrected from prior inspections.

These kitchens were cited by the state health department since Aug. 27:

Twin Peaks Restaurant at 3516 Sangani Blvd., D’Iberville, was inspected for a permit on Sept. 4.

It was cited for:

▪ Inadequate hand washing facilities supplied and accessible, a repeat violation.

A corrective follow-up inspection the same day showed the violation was corrected and the restaurant scored a B. This was the second C dating back to 2015. The prior one was in 2023.

Perico’s Mexican Grill at 547 E Frontage Dr. , Wiggins, had a scheduled inspection Sept. 12. It was cited for:

▪ Improper eating, tasting, drinking or tobacco use, a repeat offense

▪ Food separated and protected, repeat

▪ Improper hot holding temperatures, repeat

▪ Improper date marking and disposition, repeat

Corrected during the inspection was:

▪ Proper cooling time and temperatures

This was the first C dating back to 2017

Wayne Lee’s Deli , 12109 Mississippi 63 South, Lucedale, had a corrective follow-up inspection Aug. 29 after failing its scheduled inspection Aug. 20.

It was again sited for two repeat violations:

▪ Food contact surface not cleaned and sanitized

▪ Time as public health control procedures and records

Corrected during the Aug. 29 inspection was:

▪ Proper date marking and disposition

This is the fifth C since Aug. 2010, with three in the last two years.

Restaurants and kitchens in Mississippi are rated “A” if they pass the health department inspection, “B” if all violations are corrected during the inspection and “C” if the violations are critical.

The health inspection grade must be displayed in all restaurants, in kitchens such as school cafeterias, day care centers, and cafes and bars where food is sold.

The vast majority of restaurants pass their inspections. From Aug. 27 to Sept. 12, the inspectors graded 146 kitchens in South Mississippi an A with no violations and 19 a B.
