New state record the biggest news from Week 4 of the South MS high school football season

The fourth week of high school football on the Mississippi Coast gave us new records and eye-opening blowouts.

A new statewide record, a program record and an upper-classification walloping highlight this week’s biggest moments. Check out the full list of scores at SunHerald.com .

Here are the five biggest stories from week four on the Coast.

5-star sets state record

A rough night ended with a positive note for St. Stanislaus. Kicker Evan Noel drilled a 61-yard field goal as time expired in a 47-10 loss to Pass Christian . It was long enough to set a new state record that had stood since 1994.

The previous record was 59 yards by Clarksdale’s Lemeko Williams . Noel is a Kohl’s Camp five star kicker and the No. 2 kicker prospect in the class of 2025. He’s currently committed to Arkansas, though he also took a visit to Ole Miss earlier this season.

Friday’s field goal was the 26th of his career.

Admirals control Tide

Gulfport finished the job this time. A year after blowing a multi-score home lead against Picayune, the Admirals rolled the Maroon Tide 41-21 on the road.

Running back duo Cooper Crosby and Dakoreyon Payton ran wild, leading an offense that totaled 604 yards with 426 of them coming on the ground. Payton rushed for 243 yards and Payton complimented with 173 yards. The pair scored five touchdowns between them.

The win snapped a five game losing streak to the Tide and was the Admirals’ largest win over Picayune since 2015.

Bulldogs stunner

Vancleave took advantage of a short-handed George County team and upset the Rebels 27-24 thanks to a 33-yard field goal by Scottie Toothman in the final minutes of the game.

George County played without multiple starters, most importantly without its Notre Dame-committed quarterback Deuce Knight and his backup/wide receiver Brenn Moody.

Hunter Harper picked up 134 yards on the ground and Kyle Capers added 118 yards with two scores in the win. Vancleave is now 2-2 with impressive wins against Forrest County Ag. and the Rebels.

Hurricanes hit The Bay

West Harrison is finding its groove after a rocky start. The Hurricanes have increased their scoring output each week and romped through Bay High with a runaway 55-0 win.

The offense was in full rhythm as it plowed through the Tigers with 395 team rushing yards. Jordan Stapleton led with 168 yards and a touchdown while also catching a 35-yard score. West Harrison even found time to throw the ball with 96 air yards from Demario Davies.

The 55 points are a new program record for a single game. West Harrison is now 3-1 for the third straight year.

Stonewall defense claims first victim

Stone is finally on the board with a win after another dominating defensive performance. The Tomcats defeated the 7A St. Martin Yellow Jackets 28-15 after scoring just seven total points between their first two games.

Running back Jayden Collins opened up the Stone offense with a big game out of the backfield. He broke loose on a 69-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter to ice the Tomcats’ first win of the year.

Jacob Aycock’s team opened with losses against Poplarville and Biloxi, but held both to 15 and 13 points respectively. Stone’s defense is quietly proving to be one of the Coast’s best and will be one to watch as a factor in the coming Region 4-5A race.
