Hattiesburg based Dirt Cheap is joining retailers and restaurants across the country and closing all 68 stores across eight states.

Parent company Channel Control Merchants has filed for bankruptcy in Delaware and will close its Dirt Cheap, Treasure Hunt and Dirt Cheap Building Supplies stores.

Nine of those stores are in South Mississippi:

    ▪ Dirt Cheap, Gautier

    ▪ Dirt Cheap Super Lux, Gulfport

    ▪ Treasure Hunt, Gulfport

    ▪ Dirt Cheap, Long Beach

    ▪ Warehouse Sale Dirt Cheap, Long Beach

    ▪ Dirt Cheap & Building Supplies, Lucedale

    ▪ Dirt Cheap, Picayune

    ▪ Dirt Cheat, Waveland

    ▪ Dirt Cheap, Wiggins

Liquidation sales have already begun, according to social media.

In May 2023, the company opened a “super lux” store on U.S. 49 in Gulfport, one of only five stores in the Dirt Cheap chain selling upscale merchandise at discount prices.

“Gulfport has been a great community for our customers and associates over the years and was selected as one of the locations,” a company spokesperson said at the time.

Dirt Cheap is an “extreme value retailer,” selling returns and excess inventory at low prices rather than stores disposing of the products. In 2022, 60 million items were saved from landfills, the company said.

it only shows the problem Mississippi has, with paying the lowest wages in the country. If people can't afford to shop at Dirt Cheap, what's the freaking point??
