GOP Group Claims Dred Scott Ruling Makes Harris Ineligible For Presidency

A Republican group claimed Vice President Kamala Harris is ineligible to run for president, citing a racist Supreme Court ruling from over 170 years ago.

According to The Independent , the National Federation of Republican Assemblies (NFRA) cited the 1857 Dred Scott Supreme Court decision as a reason why Harris isn't allowed to make a bid for the White House in the group’s platform and policy document. In Dred Scott v. Sanford, the Supreme Court ruled that slaves weren't U.S. citizens and weren't protected by the federal government. The ruling has since been overturned.

The NFRA further claimed in the document that Harris didn't qualify for the presidency due to presidential requirements listed in the Constitution. Since Harris had parents who weren't American citizens at the time of her birth, the NFR alleged that she wasn't a "natural-born citizen," or “a person born on American soil of parents who are both citizens of the United States at the time of the child’s birth.”

The organization also questioned the validity of Nikki Haley and Vivek Ramaswamy running for president based on the Constitution's "natural-born citizen" requirement.

However, the NFRA's claims would've made George Washington , Thomas Jefferson , and other Founding Fathers ineligible to be president since their parents were born in British colonies.

It is also unclear why the NFRA cited the Dred Scott ruling in their argument since the decision has no link to the natural-born citizen clause. Harris was born and raised in Oakland, California so their claims are invalid.

In a statement, NFRA president Alex Johnson doubled down on the group's attack against Harris.

“We firmly believe that faux Democrat Ms. Harris should never hold office for any of the many reasons people choose to highlight, including her party’s tactics on dividing people by race and class, which mirror those that have led nations like Venezuela, Cuba, and North Korea into totalitarian regimes,” Johnson said.

“These policies have historically resulted in widespread suffering, economic collapse, and the erosion of individual freedoms. The Democrat Party preys on the ignorance of voters.”
