Bodycam Footage Shows Fatal Police Shooting Of Justin Robinson

Body camera footage of the fatal police shooting of Justin Robinson , a 26-year-old Black man who served as a Violence Interrupter in D.C., has been released, per FOX 5 DC .

Robinson, 26, was shot and killed on September 1 as D.C. police were responding to a report about a car crash at a McDonald's on Marion Barry Avenue.

When police responded to the scene, officers found Robinson unconscious in his car in the drive-thru with a gun in his lap. Officers said when Robinson started to wake up, they asked him to put the weapon down repeatedly.

At one point during the encounter, police said Robinson attempted to grab an officer's gun, prompting police to open fire. Robinson was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities released body camera footage on Monday (September 9) following pressure from the community and activists. According to authorities, the family initially didn't want the footage to be released to the public, but they later reversed their decision.

Tralicia , Robinson's sister, told local outlets that the family was hesitant about the release because they were told parts would be redacted.

"We wanted to watch the video ourselves and then be able to tell our own story before the video was redacted," Tralicia said.

"The only redactions in the videos are those that are required by law," Chief Pamela Smith said in a statement following the video's release.

Two officers involved in Robinson's fatal shooting have been put on administrative leave. Over 1,000 people have signed a Change.org petition calling for "Justice for Justin."
