BINGHAMTON, NY (WIVT/WBGH) — Calling all cornhole players! There’s a tournament coming to Downtown Binghamton next weekend and the winners will walk away with cash prizes.
The Cannabis Association of New York, known as CANY, in partnership with the Broome County Urban League and Just Breathe Tomorrows, are hosting a cornhole tournament on Collier Street next Saturday, July 20.
There will be 6 games being played at once, with the first place winners taking home $1,000, second place wins $500, and third place receives $250.
The President of CANY, Damien Cornwell says now that the stigma behind marijuana is slowly lifting, the cannabis community can bolster its public outreach and get more people in the know.
“But I think over time, the states realized that in competing with the illicit market or unregulated market, it’s really been beneficial to create initiatives so that now we can actually advertise and let people know that we are here, we exist. We’re good community partners, and my plan, we’re suppose to be giving things back to our communities to make it a better way of life,” Cornwell said.
Cornwell says Collier Street will be blocked off and lined with vendors. Each cornhole game will be played to 21 points.
The funds raised through the tournament will support CANY’s education outreach, and daycare programs at the Urban League. It’s a $50 entry fee.
