Binghamton, N.Y. ( WIVT/WGBH ) –The Ross Park Zoo has partnered up with Greenlight Networks to provide a improved internet connection around the park.

The zoo has struggled with providing high speed internet due to dead zones around the park.
The partnership will allow for top of the line, high speed internet to be accessed throughout all of the park.

Greenlight has agreed to work with the park to provide stable connection to every corner of the zoo.

Executive Director of the zoo, Philip Ginter says with better internet, park-goers can more reliably share their pictures and experiences online, and attract more people to the zoo.

“We think its gonna be just a huge benefit for folks to be able to remain connected when they’re here, and hopefully encourage more people to come knowing that they can, if there’s an emergency, if they need to reach back out to a babysitter, or check in on a family member, they can do that safely while they’re here now that we got a more reliable service in place.” Ginter said.

To celebrate the partnership, guests at Ross Park today got in for free, courtesy of Greenlight.
The internet company had tables setup around the park, answering questions, promoting their services and giving out free goodies.

Greenlight’s CEO, Mark Murphy, says the park’s administrative buildings are already connected to the new service, but the public Wi-Fi will be available soon.

“Connecting up the number of administrative buildings, the gift shop, in other places, throughout the zoo, and then partnering a longer run to make sure we have some of the best public Wi-Fi available in the country for Americas fifth zoo.” Murphy said.

Ginter says since transitioning to Greenlight, the park has had faster internet speeds, and greater reliability.

He says before, if there was an intense storm, the park could lose internet connection, but now, even through this week’s crazy weather, its remained up and running.

Ginter expects the new public Wi-Fi will be rolling out within the next several months.
