Business of the Week: The Binghamton Rescue Mission

BINGHHAMTON, N.Y (WIVT/WBHG) – The Binghamton Rescue Mission is the Greater Binghamton Chamber of Commerce Business of the Week.

The Rescue Mission provides a place to stay for those who are at risk of being homeless or are already experiencing homelessness while they work to get back up on their feet.

The organization helps both men and women recover missing documents such as their driver’s license, Birth certificate, or social security number and offers career counseling.

“And we explain to the residence, ‘We’re your steppingstone, we’re the opportunity for you to gain the life skills that you might need.’ The ultimate goal is for our residents to live in the community successfully. So, we have many residents with many different needs, and we meet them where they’re at,” said Regional Director of the Binghamton Rescue Mission, Kim Kappler.

The Rescue Mission houses a max capacity of 35 residents, currently, with 32 men and 3 women.

Kappler says that empty beds don’t last long and there is always a waiting list.

The Rescue Mission partners with local Thrifty Shopper locations to raise funds and donations. You can find a donation bin at local Thrifty Shopper stores.
