BINGHAMTON, N.Y (WIVT/WBGH) – New York State’s Targeted Home Improvement Program or T-HIP, is a pilot program that awards grants to non-profits serving low income homeowners.

Eligible homeowners can get $40,000 per house, for home repairs, including, ADA improvement, roof repairs, code violations and utility upgrades.

The funding will be administered through the non-profits, First Ward Action Council and Home HeadQuarters.

“Fixing that front step, replacing some windows, my boiler is about to go, I need to replace a furnace. These are all things that could be covered by this grant. This grant will go directly to families that need to improve their housing stock. It will change the face of many neighborhoods across the City of Binghamton,” says Kraham.

Kraham says there’s $5 million in total funding, so he expects the program to assist about 135 Binghamton homeowners.

To apply for funding, homeowners must live in 13904 or 13905 zip codes.

To be eligible, the total household income must not be greater than 80% area median income.

Applications for the pilot program are open now, and funding will be administered over the next two years.

To apply, reach out to First Ward Action Council at 772-2850 or Home HeadQuarters at 724-4330.
