Local Verizon stores giving away free backpacks

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – Local Verizon stores are easing the financial burden of back-to-school shopping with a free family event.

Round Room LLC, a Verizon authorized retailer, is giving away $3,000,000 worth of free backpacks on July 28 at its 12th Annual School Rocks Backpack Giveaway event.

Hundreds of families are expected to attend the event. In addition to the giveaway, there will also be kid’s activities and service giveaways from other local businesses.

The backpack giveaway will start 1 p.m. and will be held at the following store locations:

• Binghamton, 1247 Upper Front Street Suite 1
• Norwich, 5403 State Highway 12
• Owego, 941 State Route 17C Suite 3

• SUNY Broome grad places 2nd in pastry chef of the year competition
• Vestal schools hire 5th SRO
• Chenango Ambulance Services gets Grant from the State
• House of Sport helping limb different athletes participate in sports
• 5-year-old sustains minor injuries after falling 30 feet at Waverly Glen Park
