BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – Some local peace activists are responding to the Israeli Prime Minister’s recent address to Congress.

Members of Broome County Veterans for Peace and Peace Action staged a protest outside of the federal building in downtown Binghamton decrying Benjamin Netanyahu’s speech and, even more so, how it was received.

The protestors accuse Netanyahu of perpetrating war crimes and pursuing genocide against the people of Gaza.

Organizer Bob Greaves says he was appalled to see members of Congress cheering for Netanyahu.

Greaves says his speech was filled with lies.

“He claimed that the ratio of combatants to non-combatants killed was better than any war in the history of wartime which is just blatantly false. We have the names of a lot of the people who have died. Thousands of children and women and it’s not as if every man that has been killed there has been a combatant. There were so many lies that he told in that and yet was celebrated for telling them. It was almost like watching a cult, believing in obtuse and weird claims, contrary to reality,” said Greaves.

The protestors also criticized local members of Congress for their support of Israel.
