Schumer touts Upstate New York’s tech industry to the feds

( WIVT/WBGH ) – Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer brought representatives from Binghamton University to Washington D.C. to tout our region’s growing innovation.

While in the capital, Schumer announced that the university led New Energy New York initiative will receive a $500,000 Consortium Accelerator Award through the Chips and Science Law.

The award comes after BU has been designated as a federal “Tech Hub,” focusing on battery development and manufacturing.

Binghamton was one of several tech hubs that were invited to Washington by the senator.

While there, Schumer says the tech hub leaders met with federal agencies and corporations to show off the growing tech industry in New York, and to incentivize investment.
