Surface water has been warming quickly on Lake Superior the last couple of weeks, now in the 60s to low 70s across much of Western Lake Superior, except portions of the North Shore which are in the mid to upper 50s. Cold water in the 40s lurks below the warm surface water, and could mix in with a strong upwelling event should it occur.

It starts with a book and movie sale. You can shop starting at 7 a.m. at the Colby Lions Shelter, that will be open until 5 p.m. The food stand will open at 5 p.m. That way you can enjoy some grub before the carnival opens at 6 p.m. You can play bingo starting at 6 p.m. If bingo isn’t your forte, you can also watch the ATV Garden Tractor & UTV pulls at the same time. Players will also hit balls out of the park at the softball tournament starting at 6:30 p.m. You can end the night with live music starting at 9 p.m. The Dweebs will be playing until 1 a.m.

EVENING STORMS END... MORE SPOTTY STORMS SUNDAY
As expected, scattered storms dropped into northern Wisconsin from Upper Michigan earlier Saturday afternoon. No severe weather is expected but there could be some locally heavy rainfall and small hail. Storms should begin to fade after sunset. Lows tonight could be as cool as the mid 50s in the Northwoods, but low/mid 60s are expected farther south. Sunday begins dry, but more spotty afternoon storms could develop. The best chance of a storm on Sunday looks to be west and southwest of Green Bay during the afternoon & evening. Highs should be near 80 degrees.
‘Birds and Blooms’ set July 27
The public is invited to Eveleth-Fayal Garden Club’s “Birds and Blooms” Flower Show on Saturday, July 27, at the Fayal Town Hall, 4375 Shady Lane, Eveleth. Entries will be accepted on Friday, July 26, 4-6:30 p.m. and Saturday morning 9:30-10:30 a.m. Exhibitors do not have to be garden club members. There will be a special category for young gardeners.
