    1 dead, 1 injured after I-59 shooting in Birmingham

    BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WIAT ) — The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation after a man was killed and another was injured Saturday night on I-59 South.

    1 dead, 1 injured in early morning Tuscaloosa County shooting

    According to BPD, officers arrived to I-59 South near the 1st Avenue North exit just after 10 p.m. on reports of a person shot. Upon arrival, officers found two adult males suffering from gunshot wounds inside a vehicle off the roadway. Birmingham Fire and Rescue arrived on the scene and pronounced Javonte McDonald, 25, of Birmingham, dead at the scene. BFRS transported the second man to UAB Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

    Preliminary investigation suggests an unknown suspect fired shots into the victims vehicle on I-59 South. Officers believe this was a targeted shooting. There is no one in custody. Anyone with information can contact BPD at 205-254-1764.
