    Man dies after found shot in east Birmingham road

    BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WIAT ) — A man died after he was found shot in east Birmingham on Tuesday night.

    According to the Birmingham Police Department, officers were dispatched around 8:05 p.m. to a person shot call in the 7800 block of Third Avenue South. At the scene, officers found a man lying in the road suffering from a gunshot wound.

    Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service personnel transported the man to UAB Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office later identified the man as Perez Demarco Moreland, 34, of Birmingham.

    The BPD stated it preliminary homicide investigation shows the victim and another man exchanged shots at a nearby residence. The other man involved in the shooting has been cooperative with BPD investigators. Detectives are attempting to determine why the shooting happened and who fired first.

    Those with information on the case are urged to call the BPD at 205-254-1764 or submit an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777. Crime Stoppers may reward tipsters up to $5,000.
