BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WIAT ) — The Birmingham VA is inviting veterans and their families to the Summer VetFest PACT Act Open House on July 18.

The event aims to inform veterans of the benefits associated with the PACT Act, which was signed into law in August 2022. The act marks one of the largest expansions in Veteran health care and benefits in years.

According to the Birmingham VA, veterans exposed to toxins and other hazards while serving are eligible to enroll directly in VA health care without first applying for VA benefits.

VA staff will be on site to help with enrollment, compensation and benefits counseling, education benefits, toxic exposure screenings, and health care resources.

The event will take place at the Birmingham VA East Clinic, 7901 Crestwood Boulevard in Irondale from 10 am – 2 pm on July 18.
