BIRMINGHAM, Ala (WIAT) — A lawsuit has been filed against the owners of a piece of property where four people were killed and 10 others injured in a mass shooting over the weekend.

On Wednesday, the city of Birmingham filed a lawsuit against GW LLC, Mortgage Realty and Trendsetters LLP following a shooting that occurred Saturday at an event center owned by the three companies.

Specifically, the city is requesting an injunction against the owners, preventing them from continuing to operate the building. This is due to the recent shooting, as well as not having a proper business license.

“The Defendants have allowed, and continue to allow, criminal, violent, and life-threatening activity to occur at or immediately near the Subject Property,” the lawsuit stated.

The lawsuit also alleged that despite not being zoned to operate as an event center, there were two other events scheduled to take place on Aug. 10 and Sept. 21.

The complaint was filed by the city’s attorney, Nicole King, who also filed complaints against the owners of a gas station property and the owners of Cru Birmingham earlier this year.
