BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WIAT ) —  A man who was fatally shot inside a Birmingham gas station was identified Monday morning.

According to Birmingham Police Department Sgt. Police found a man lying unresponsive suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service personnel pronounced the man dead.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office later identified the man as 54-year-old Richard Allen Judkins.

The preliminary investigation suggests a physical altercation took place inside the business between Judkins and the man. The unidentified man then shot Judkins and turned himself into police custody, according to BPD.
