Annual blood drive honoring Hoover teen happening this weekend

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WIAT ) — Organizers are preparing an annual blood donation event to honor the life of a Hoover teen.

The Sophia Zeigler Blood Drive will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the UAB Campus Greens, hosted by LifeSouth.

On Aug. 3, 2022, Zeigler was shot and killed at a Hoover gas station. She was 19 years old and aspired to become a sonographer.

In the wake of her death, Sophia’s Giving Hands Foundation has supported victims of domestic and gun violence.

Saturday’s event will feature free drinks, snacks, pizza and prize giveaways. Donors will receive a $20 e-gift card and a custom t-shirt. Platelet and double red cell donors will receive a $40 e-gift card while supplies last.
