NEXT Weather alert issued due to potential flooding
The CBS Miami NEXT Weather team has issued NEXT Alerts for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.Deep tropical moisture associated with disturbance in the Gulf of Mexico will bring heavy rain and the potential for flooding to South Florida. According to the National Hurricane Center:Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla., warns visitors to expect park closures due to Hurricane Milton. Miami Gardens in South Florida has issued a local state of emergency. Milton is expected to reach category 4 hurricane status within 48 hours.A flood watch is issued for all of southern Florida starting at 11 a.m. on October 6 until 8 a.m. on October 10. Hurricane and storm surge watches will likely be required for portions of Florida late today.Rainfall amounts of 5 to 8 inches, with localized totals up to 12 inches, are expected across portions of the Florida Peninsula and the Keys through Wednesday night. Miami Commissioner Kevin Marino Cabrera led a resolution this week urging President Biden, U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland, Governor Ron DeSantis, and Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody to seek justice for the murders of four Brothers to the Rescue members: Carlos Costa, Armando Alejandre, Jr., Mario de la Peña, and Pablo Morales.
Two cited in fish cases
Two Miami-Dade County men recently received mandatory notices to appear in court citations for harvesting a litany of various undersized and over-the-limit fish. Islamorada Marine Deputy Jason Farr was on patrol near the Whale Harbor Bridge the morning of Sept. 28 when he observed two men fishing, according to Monroe County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Adam Linhardt. Upon inspecting their catch, Daimel Del Toro Garica, 38 of Hialeah, was cited for reportedly possessing 17 undersized mangrove snapper, 12 over the bag limit snapper, and five undersized schoolmaster snapper. Alberto Milanes Cardona, of Homestead, was cited for reportedly possessing two undersized mangrove snapper and fishing without a license, Linhardt said.

South Florida will experience scattered thunderstorms today as moisture increases across the region due to a weak tropical wave. These storms will be more prevalent in the afternoon over interior and southwest Florida, with a 40-50% chance of rainfall. Temperatures are expected to remain hot, with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s and heat indices reaching the low triple digits.
