ASHEBORO – Allie Popp’s senior year at Southwestern Randolph was her best on the tennis courts and beyond. Even with her playing days done, she was reaping awards. Popp was presented with the Pat Gainey Award, which is a student scholarship in memory of Pat Gainey of Dunn. Teenager injured after crashing truck into tree
A teenager suffered minor injuries after he crashed into a tree along Union Church Road outside of Carthage on Thursday. Dispatchers sent first responders to the scene near Lynch Road just before 4:45 p.m. Crews arrived to a Ford F-150 that had heavy damage to the passenger side of the truck, where the vehicle made impact with the tree.

DENVER – A firefighter with a passion for cigars has opened an artisanal cigar store in Denver. This is the second Burners Cigar Co. owned by Josh Johnson, a full-time Charlotte firefighter. His first store, which he’s owned for 13 years, is in Birkdale Village in Huntersville. The name “Burners” came from Johnson’s father and brother because he’d often say, “Let’s go burn one,” referring to smoking a cigar.
