BISMARCK, ND ( KXNET ) — Right now, workers are putting in a new playground at a preschool.

Earlier this year, BECEP was approved to install a new indoor playground in its gym.

The playground was donated by a childcare center that recently closed.

But the project is also removing asbestos that was under the flooring in the building, which was formerly Richholt Elementary School.

“We were working with a traditional elementary school gym, which is wonderful except for three, four, and five-year-olds not exactly the same size as five through 10 or 11-year-olds,” said BECEP Head Start Coordinator Amanda Carlson. “So, we’re definitely really excited to be able to offer our students some more interactive experience. We’re not allowed to take them outside because of our North Dakota winters.”

Supervisors with BECEP tell KX News the total cost of the project is around $210,000.
