Thrift Store Treasures: Pyrex, Silverware, Pottery, and More

I enjoy going through thrift stores, some are much better than others. I hate to say it, but the thrifting in higher end neighborhoods usually contains more desirable items, that I search for. First and foremost, I look for Pyrex. I like to collect the different patterns and have many. If I don't find the more rare designs, I'm always happy to add to my current patterns. I rarely use them, but I should. I'd enjoy the big bowls for salads, and the many casserole styles. But i'm afraid of breakage. I'll save them for my grandkids ,maybe. Who knows what their tastes will be in future, right?

Here are some other items I like to search for. Sterling silver. Never goes out of style, whether It's silverware or sugarbowls. They are all beauiful and valuable. I Also look for vintage frames and mirrors. Even if the mirror is cracked, the older frames are wonderful to display.

Additionally, I like pottery, stoneware and porcelain items. I have discovered some fantastic handmade and signed pottery that I adore. Even large pottery for plants are worth lugging home. The uniqueness of them far outweighs the typical plastic planters of today.

Occasionally, I'll see a brand name purse, wallet or other accessory, that I like. I might use it for a year, take good care of it and later on take it to my local thrift stores, for someone else to en joy.

Although cast iron pans are too heavy for me to handle, I collect for my daughter. It's also too costly to ship, so If I know we will be driving to N.Y., I'll have a nice surprise for her, upon arrival.

I like hand knitted blankets and sweaters. They are cosy and warm and were made with love. I adore great quilts too. I once found a handmade Amish quilt for next to nothing. Someone goofed in their pricing. It's very colorful and beautifully stitched by hand. I know they can cost hundreds of dollars, as I have seen their beautiful quilts on display, in the Amish neighbor/ stores, in N.Y. when I visit. Alot of time and work goes into the quilts, done by the Amish women.

Although I'm not crazy about the Hollywood 50's era decor or trivia, I often see these items. Alot of jewelry is also noted. And I don't need any more Christmas items, but sometimes you see just the one perfect piece that you want. So, that's my thrifting list, do you have any certain items that you like to look for? I also LOVE antique stores, but that's for another day. Enjoy your thrifting!
