Baking Soda: The Magical Multi-Purpose Wonder

Here's the last of my tips. You probably will think of more, so keep that box of baking soda ready. Let's start with your body.

Bee stings and bug bites, can be relieved by a paste of water/ soda , stops the sting or the itch, Leave it on till it dries, and repeat as necessary. Your stuffy nose can be helped by mixing 1/4 teaspoon with 1 tablespoon of water. Use a dropper and put one or two drops in each nostril and soon feel relief. Sunburn can be helped as well. Mix 1/4 cup of baking soda with 1/2 cup of corn starch in your tub with tepid water, and soak, as long as you can manage. Relieve the blisters of shingles by applying handfuls of baking soda, to the blisters, making a paste in your tepid bath. And clean out those nasty splinter punctures, with the usual paste, rinse and repeat until clean.

How about a experiment for the grandkids? Play "chemist" by letting the kids mix baking soda and vinegar. Use hot vinegar in one cup and iced vinegar in another. drop a teaspoon into each cup and watch the reaction time. Use safe conditions, of course. You can also find a Playdough and other clay recipes online, for the kids.

Your pets can benefits from baking soda too. Sprinkle a small amount of soda on your dog, brush it out to help remove doggie odors. Or if it's bath time, add the baking soda (2 tablespoons) to to his bath and to the rinse process to help give a shiny and soft coat. Add 1/2 cup to their laundry to help clean and deordorize their bedding. For your cat, use it under their litter, to help with odors. Also, use it in the guinea pig's cage. Cover the bottom of the cage with baking soda, then your newspaper or wood shavings.

How about around the house? Soften up that hardened pain brush. Don't throw it away. Boil it in a solution of 1/2 gal of water, 1 cup baking soda and 1/4 cup vinegar. Keep ants, roaches etc. away by making a barrier around your sink pipes. They will eat the baking soda, dehydrate and die. Men, clean up your car battery as needed. Get rid of the corrosion. Make the paste of baking soda with a little water, wipe or brush the terminals clean, then add a little petroleum to prevent the corrosion from coming back. You can also clean your chrome trim and bumpers as well as the car's ashtray, to eliminate the smell. Your vinyl seats can be cleaned as well. Use a damp sponge with baking soda sprinkled on it. Rinse well. Clean your car's carpets as well. Just sprinkle onto upholstery and carpets, let sit a bit, then vacuum.

Got ant hills? Sprinkle baking soda on a damp mound, After about a 1/2 hour, pour some vinegar on the ant hill. The ants will eat it. Say Goodbye.
