Opinion: Will Black lives MAGA? Biden's support drops to 63% of Black voters, Trump is rising- poll

[ U.S Politics] Make America Great Again (MAGA) is a movement associated with the Republican Party and former President Donald Trump representing a wide range of conservative ideologies. The potential for some Black Americans to align with the MAGA movement in 2024 sheds light on the diverse political perspectives rising within the Black community.

As the United States approaches the 2024 presidential election season, the question of how Black Americans will influence the political landscape looms large. While the majority of Black voters traditionally align with the Democratic Party, there exists a subset of the Black population that vocally supports and rallies behind the Republican ex-president.

According to a recent USA Today/ Suffolk University poll, President Biden support has dwindled to just 63% of Black voters.

That same poll also showed Trump ahead with Hispanic voters and young voters.

Whitehouse Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, when asked by an MSNBC reporter how she would explain the straying of Black, Hispanic and young voters from Biden and the Democrat party she replied:

So I'm going to, again, I'm going to be super mindful of 2024 as we're stepping, as we're into an election year. Her look, we understand what the american people went through these past three years, right? We came out of a pandemic, right, a pandemic that we haven't seen in 100 years. And when the president walked in, the economy was upside down. And so we get it. We get that it's going to take a little bit of time for folks to feel what the Bidenomics has been able to do. That's not something that I'm saying. That's something that economists have said, right. It takes little bit of time, but it doesn't mean that the president's not going to continue to work. -Karine-Jean Pierre

Opinion: Will Black lives MAGA?

Black voters in 2024 will face critical decisions. They will need to carefully consider the positions of the candidates on tangibles that matter to the Black community in addition to the broader issues of crime, the economy and immigration.

Despite the reasons behind the uptick in Black support for Donald Trump, it is important to acknowledge the challenges and criticisms associated with his presidency. Controversial statements, divisive rhetoric, and policies viewed by some as detrimental to minority communities have led to skepticism and outright opposition from a significant portion of the Black electorate.

In the heat of a political season, it's easy to get swept away by the tide of emotions, fearmongering and what I call PANDER-aid from either side. Instead, we must step back, analyze the issues, and make informed decisions that benefit our community.

Emotions aside, were we better off under Trump (pre-pandemic) or now under Biden?
