CHEROKEE COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – The Cherokee county Coroners Office said a child injured in a two-vehicle collision on Wednesday has died.

The victim was identified as 9-year-old, Jacobe Bayley, of Hampton, Georgia.

According to the coroners office, the driver, Bayley’s mother, was driving west on S.C. 5 at 7:25 p.m. The traffic signals were not operating at the intersection U.S. Highway 29, due to a power outage, where the Kia and a 2021 Cadillac collided.

Bayley was first taken to Cherokee Medical Center where he was stabilized and then airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. He died Saturday morning from injuries sustained in the accident.

Bayley became Cherokee County’s 16th traffic related death in 2024, according to the coroners office.
