City council votes to raise salaries
The Emporia City Council received support for its proposition to raise councilor’s salaries during a public hearing on Tuesday, though not without discourse. The council last received a raise in 2006, when the former board voted to raise their monthly pay from $400 to $600. The proposed salary on Tuesday’s agenda was $10,000 for council members — almost a $3,000 increase — and $12,000 for the mayor.

Wakefield, VA – Showers and isolated thunderstorms are moving across Virginia today, with additional storms expected later. Flash flooding is possible across much of the area, particularly central and eastern parts, as well as northeast North Carolina. The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for most areas along and east of Interstate 95, including Richmond Metro and Hampton Roads.

Henrico native featured on ’16 And Pregnant’ dies at 27
A Henrico native who appeared on the MTV Show 16 and Pregnant in 2014 has died, multiple entertainment websites reported Monday. Autumn Oxley Crittendon died July 20 at her home in Henrico at the age of 27, following reports of a medical emergency for which Henrico Fire and EMS officials had been called. Crittendon was found unresponsive, and officials were not able to revive her.
Flood advisory issued for Wake, Franklin, Granville
