ELIZABETHTOWN — East Bladen senior midfielder Jamie Delgado received the Waccamaw Conference Co-Player of the Year alongside Pender junior midfielder Aiden Ross. Delgado concluded his senior season with 31 assists and 14 goals as the Eagles went on to finish in second place in the Waccamaw with a record of 10-2. Ross led the Waccamaw Conference with 30 goals, while bagging 26 assists, and he had 86 statistical points to help his team to an undefeated 12-0 record in conference play.

GOLDSBORO — The 13th-seeded East Bladen Eagles defeated the 12th-seeded Rosewood Eagles for a 47-14 victory in the third round of the NCHSAA 1A State Playoffs on Friday. East Bladen’s senior running-back duo of Masion Brooks and Na’Toren Corbett combined for 312 yards on the ground as his team ran away with the game in the second half.
Teams battle wildfires in Western NC
The Collett Ridge wildfire in the Nantahala National Forest is the largest of several throughout Western North Carolina, according to the North Carolina Forest Service. It started on Oct. 23 and has grown to more than 5,447 acres, affecting Cherokee, Macon, and Clay counties. Despite an early November cold front that brought cooler temperatures and light rain, the fire, sparked by lightning, according to the U.S. Forest Service, remains only 80% contained as of Nov. 16. The challenging terrain, low humidity, and ongoing drought have exacerbated the situation. Gov. Roy Cooper declared a state of emergency on Nov. 8, enabling additional protective measures.

ELIZABETHTOWN — The 13th-seeded East Bladen Eagles hit the road for their third round playoff matchup with the 12th-seeded Goldsboro-Rosewood Eagles this Friday.
