With a war raging in the Middle East, consumers have expected an impact on the price of gasoline.

PEMBROKE – The University of North Carolina at Pembroke is scheduled to host a panel discussion on “The Assassination of John F. Kennedy, 60 Years Later” on Oct. 24. The program, which will be held in the main reading room of the Livermore Library, is set to begin at 4 p.m.

A bundle of sleeping bags is stashed in the corner, because as Whiteville’s emergency service director, he has occasion to sleep here.
North Carolina National Guard Equiped with Life Saving AEDs
The North Carolina National Guard (NCNG) has delivered the first of 112 new Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) across the force. The defibrillators were acquired, in part, due to an emergency incident, where an AED was used to help save a asoldier under cardiac arrest earlier this year. A significant upgrade to the new devices is an extended lifespan of battery and pads to five years. Col. Christina Henderson, NCNG Occupational Health Nurse and Safety Branch Chief, carefully planned a phased implementation of the devices based on hazards, number of personnel and other variables, to include a detailed cost analysis.

ELIZABETHTOWN — The Pender Patriots defeated the East Bladen Eagles for a 3-nil victory on Monday evening in a Waccamaw Conference clash. The Patriots got two goals from junior midfielder Aiden Murray and a goal from junior winger Aaron Santiago in the shutout win. The Eagles started the game with charging runs forward that their opponents struggled to cope with in the first 12 minutes of the half.

Eagles stay perched at top
ROCKY POINT — The East Bladen Eagles defeated the Heide Trask Titans for a 28-8 victory on Friday night in a Waccamaw conference clash. Senior running-back Masion Brooks continued his stellar season against a struggling football team with 206 yards on the ground and four rushing touchdowns. All four of his touchdowns came in the first quarter of play and the Eagles defense took care of the rest by holding their opponents to eight points.
Midway wins with balance on the field
SPIVEY’S CORNER — The Midway Raiders defeated the West Bladen Knights for a 51-24 victory on Friday night in a SAC 6 clash. Senior quarterback Tripp Westbrook and junior running-back Cody Ammons were a 1-2-punch on the offensive side of the ball for the Raiders with seven touchdowns between them. Westbrook threw for 291 yards on 12-of-16 passing and bagged four touchdown passes in three quarters. Ammons brought physicality to the host run game and he scampered around the field for 127 yards on 25 carries.
Cheaper gas prices are expected to continue in coming weeks
ELIZABETHTOWN — Average gas prices around Elizabethtown saw a significant price drop in the last week, falling from $3.40 per gallon a week ago to $3.23 on Monday. Drivers found gas prices around the rest of Bladen County about the same or even a few cents lower per gallon.
