New films to open at Cinema Art Theater July 26
Beginning Friday, July 26, the Rehoboth Beach Film Society’s Cinema Art Theater will present “Kinds of Kindness” and ‘Widow Clicquot.”. An intriguing triptych fable that consists of three distinct but loosely connected stories, “Kinds of Kindness” follows a man without choice who tries to take control of his own life; a policeman who is alarmed that his wife who was missing-at-sea has returned and seems a different person; and a woman determined to find a specific someone with a special ability, who is destined to become a prodigious spiritual leader.
‘Room Enough’ Rehoboth history author to appear Aug. 2
Browseabout Books will host Roger Truitt, author of “Room Enough,” for a signing event from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, Aug. 2, at 133 Rehoboth Ave., Rehoboth Beach. Truitt’s historical novel tells the story of the founding of Rehoboth as a seaside camp meeting revival venue in 1873. It reveals how the city was initially developed by the Rev. Robert Todd and then changed dramatically over the next eight years as the railroad was extended from Lewes and the “sinners” prevailed over the “saints.”
Patricia Beckett-Effort, devoted to church, community
Patricia Beckett-Effort was born in North Tarrytown, N.Y., Dec. 21, 1939, and her journey through life was one of compassion, dedication, and service. Patricia graduated from North Tarrytown High School in 1957 and went on to attend Westchester Community College. Faith was an integral part of her life, and she actively participated in churches in Tarrytown. She found solace and purpose within the walls of the Church of St. John the Evangelist in White Plains.

The Lewes Major League All-Stars began their journey for a state title with a 10-0 mercy-rule victory over Naamans in four innings July 24 in Middletown. Dodging rain drops, the Lewes bats were hot and pitcher Finn Gannon had ice in his veins. Gannon had the Naamans team off balance all game, scattering just three hits while striking out two. He also helped himself at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.

14-year-old charged with murder in connection to June Ellendale homicide
ELLENDALE, Del. – A 14-year-old has been arrested in connection to a June homicide in Ellendale. The incident happened at around 4:30 p.m. on June 9th, in the 12000 block of North Old State Road. Troopers arrived at the scene to learn that a 17-year-old female had been shot and taken to the Ellendale Fire Company before being taken to a nearby hospital by ambulance. She was pronounced dead at the hospital. A second victim, a 19-year-old man, was taken to an area hospital with a gunshot wound to his leg and was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
