Flash drought possible in the coming days across KAKEland
WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - Our nice stretch of below average temperatures is about to quickly come to an end as the triple digits are set to return by the end of the weekend. Highs are expected to soar back into the century mark across KAKEland starting on Sunday, and they will remain there well into the start of August. This increase in heat will also bring dry weather, and both of these things could result in a flash drought across parts of the U.S.
Man jailed for starting fire in basement of Kansas home
SHAWNEE COUNTY —Police investigating a fire at a home in Topeka have made an arrest. Just before 7 a.m. Wednesday, crews responded to a reported house fire at 1305 SW Western Avenue in Topeka, according to spokesperson Rosie Nichols. Firefighters found smoke coming from the home and fire in the basement. Crews were able to extinguish the fire and no occupants were located in the house. No injuries have been reported.
Clay Center man jailed after night of alcohol-fueled reckless driving
A Clay Center man is being held in the Riley County Jail after a night of alcohol-fueled reckless driving. Tucker Lee Lamore, 21, was arrested around 2:20 a.m. on probable cause offenses of aggravated battery, driving under the influence of drugs/alcohol, and reckless driving. His total bond was set at $12,000.
