    Area Track and Field: Blaine boys finish as true team state runner-up

    The Blaine boys track and field team finished as the state runner-up in the Class AAA True Team State Championships held in Stillwater May 17. The Blaine girls earned seventh place, and the Anoka boys earned ninth place.

    The Blaine boys won a pair of events, with Zughumnan Zillang atop the high jump and a first-place run by the 4x200-meter relay. The Bengals had a trio of runner-up finishes by Gerald Ferguson in the triple jump, Jamareon Douglas in the 100 and the 4x100 relay; a third-place finish by the 4x800 relay; fourth-place finishes by Connor Bialka in the 800 and River Santiago in the 3,200; and a fifth-place finish by Santiago in the 1,600.

    Leading the Anoka boys were Aaron Peterson winning the 800; Afanna Ibekwe as the runner-up in the 110 hurdles; Alexander Wimmer in third in the shot put; and fifth-place finishes by Pete Gandah in the discus and Blake Sieben in the pole vault.

    Final team scores for the Class AAA boys were: Mounds View 1,156; Blaine 1,058; Minnetonka 1,054; Stillwater 1,041.5; Rosemount 1,002; Wayzata 943.5; Edina 851; Mankato East 798; Anoka 732; Prior Lake 701; Moorhead 645.5; Shakopee 569.5.

    Leading the Blaine girls were the runner-up 4x200 relay; the third-place 4x400 relay; fourth-place finishes by Jordan Blair in the triple jump and Brynlee Wegener in the 1,600; and fifth-place finishes by Hannah Claussen in the 200 and the 4x100 relay.

    Class AA true team

    The Totino-Grace boys earned 10th in the Class AA state true team meet May 18.

    The Eagles were led by event wins from Justin Kuharski in the 100 and in the 200, and from Matthew Lindgren in the 800 and in the 1,600; a runner-up finish by Owen Lamb in the 400; third-place finishes by Josiah Young in the high jump and the 4x200 relay; fourth-place finishes by Isaac Meyer in the 1,600, Xavier Case in the pole vault and the 4x400 relay; and a fifth-place finish by Meyer in the 3,200.

    MCAA Championships

    The Legacy Christian Academy boys and girls teams won a combined 13 events during the MCAA Championships held in Eden Prairie May 16.

    Conference champions for the LCA boys were Dominic Zoa in the 400, Joren Rudzitis in the 110 hurdles and in the 300 hurdles, David Van Gorp in the pole vault, the 4x200 relay, the 4x400 relay, and the 4x800 relay.

    Conference champions for the LCA girls were Addison Kimmel in the 400, Kylee Loren in the 300 hurdles, Campbell Remus in the pole vault, the 4x200 relay, the 4x400 relay, and the 4x800 relay.
