    Track and Field: Blaine sweeps NWSC titles, Spring Lake Park girls and Anoka boys finish 2nd

    The Blaine boys and girls track and field teams came away with a title sweep during the Northwest Suburban Conference Championships held in Elk River May 22-23, with runner-up finishes by the Anoka boys and Spring Lake Park girls.

    NWSC boys

    The Blaine boys won four events, led by Evan Koerber in the 800-meter run in 1:55.27; the 4x100 relay team of Zachary Larson, Samuel Shaughnessy, Michael Olomiyete and Michael Douglas (42.36); the 4x800 relay team of Nathan Taylor, Connor Bialka, Jack Zellmer and Koerber (8:05.76); and Shiloh Ayitey in the high jump (6-2). Runners-up included Jamareon Douglas in the 100; River Santiago in the 1,600 and in the 3,200; the 4x200 relay team of Larson, Shaughnessy, Haevian Cole and Jamareon Douglas; and Garald Ferguson Jr. in the triple jump; earning third were Michael Douglas in the long jump and Tuulla Gemta in the triple jump; earning fourth were Olomiyete in the 100 and in the 200; Matthew Rivera in the 110 hurdles; and Zughumnan Zillang in the high jump; and earning fifth were Jamareon Douglas in the 200; Haevian Cole in the 400; Rivera in the 300 hurdles; and Prince Daye in the triple jump.

    The Anoka boys were led by Afanna Ibekwe winning the 110 hurdles (14.49) and finishing as the runner-up in the 300 hurdles. Earning third were Aaron Peterson in the 400; the 4x800 relay team of Peterson, Thomas Radtke, Connor Dow and Dustin Larson; Jack Diehl in the discus; and Blake Sieben in the pole vault; earning fourth were the 4x100 relay team of Zachary Welch, Ibekwe, Caleb Prosper and Zee Korti; Pete Gandah in the discus; and Isaiah Salami in the triple jump; and earning fifth were Caleb Nyamari in the high jump; and Ruben Fernandez in the pole vault.

    The Andover boys earned fifth, led by pole vault champion Jackson Froslee at 14-9, and long jump runner-up Shae Wyszynski. Earning third were Aidan Gomes in the 1,600 and in the 3,200; Wyszynski in the 300 hurdles; and the 4x200 relay team of Keegan Evans, Cam Begalle, Samuel Audette and Ayden Shaw; earning fourth was Maurice Counce in the long jump; and earning fifth was Jack Jendro in the 800.

    The Coon Rapids boys earned sixth as a team, with event titles by KhiJohnn Cummings-Coleman in the 100 (10.93) and the 200 (21.96); the 4x200 relay team of Jerry Freeman, Joseph Hauge, Lance Hill and Cummings-Coleman (1:27.99); and Sam Dennis in the shot put (56-0.25). Jerry Freeman was the runner-up in the 400; earning third was the 4x400 relay team of Cyril Lifaka, Mekhai Martin, Tyler Vossen and Freeman; and earning fifth was the 4x100 relay team of Aloysius Nyapan, Hauge, Hill and Gavin Sayadeth.

    The Spring Lake Park boys earned ninth, led by triple jump champion Rich Adeniyi-Akins in the triple jump at 47-1.5, and 800 runner-up Luke Fehrenbacher. Earning fourth were Reilly Kopp in the 1,600; Brady Paulson in the 300 hurdles; and Sebastian Santiago in the pole vault.

    The Totino-Grace boys earned 10th as a team. Justin Kuharski was the runner-up in the 200; earning third were Matthew Lindgren in the 800 and Kuharski in the 100; earning fourth was Owen Lamb in the 400; and earning fifth was the 4x400 relay team of Lindgren, Zachary Bartsch, Kuharski and Lamb.

    NWSC girls

    The Blaine girls took home four event victories, including Hannah Claussen in the 200 (25.53); Katelyn Wozniak in the 400 (57.98); the 4x200 relay team of Hope Dweh, Claussen, Grace Kowhegba and Katelyn Wozniak (1:40.83); and Jordan Blair in the long jump (17-7.5). Finishing as runners-up were Dweh in the 200; the 4x100 relay team of Aliyah Adepoju, Jordan Blair, Tayalekay Borh and Grace Kowhegba; the 4x400 relay team of Wozniak, Addison Stadden, Claussen and Dweh; and Yvonne Marsh in the triple jump; earning third were Adepoju in the 100; and Blair in the triple jump; and earning fourth were Stadden in the 400; and the 4x800 relay team of Hailey Kral, Abigail Strasser, Ellyn Soli and Alayna Kurland.

    The Spring Lake Park girls were led by Brianna Finnegan’s win in the 100 in 12.34, and Arabella Sutch as the runner-up in both the shot put and discus. Earning third were Tiffanie Huynh in the pole vault; Ellyana Prairie in the 100 hurdles; and Finnegan in the 200; earning fourth were the 4x100 relay team of Malaya James, Finnegan, Nevaeh Coffer and Prairie; Prairie in the 300 hurdles; the 4x200 relay team of James, Amelia Sutch, Jade Rathke and Coffer; Genevieve Dabout in the shot put; Brynna York in the pole vault; and Coffer in the long jump; and earning fifth was Anja Erickson in the triple jump.

    The Andover girls earned fifth as a team, led by Avah Shaw as the champion in the high jump at 5-3, and as the runner-up in the long jump. Payton McKnight finished as the runner-up in the 100 hurdles and third in the 300 hurdles; and earning fifth was the 4x400 relay team of McKnight, Skylyn Jorgenson, Rachel Nordquist and Elizabeth Fields.

    The Anoka girls earned 10th, led by titles from Ja’Mya Viney in the high jump (5-3); and Macie Beall in the pole vault (11-0). Finishing as runner-up was Maria Byrnes in the pole vault; earning third was Hayden Reeder in the high jump; and earning fifth were Abigail Namukwaya in the 800; and Lydia Lakanen in the shot put.

    The Coon Rapids girls earned 12th, led by Nyebol Jock winning the 100 hurdles in 15.30, and finishing as the runner-up in the 300 hurdles.

    The Totino-Grace girls finished 14th, led by Denitsa Zaharieva in fifth in the 400.

    Mississippi 8

    St. Francis’ Samuel Ruid swept the throws during the Mississippi 8 Conference Championships in Zimmerman May 22, winning the shot put at 47-0 and discus at 155-7.
