Jail still out of compliance
SHELL LAKE — The Washburn County Jail is still not up to compliance according to the Wisconsin Administrative Code in classifications. The Wisconsin Department of Corrections (DOC) had told the Washburn County Board that the jail, which was built in the early 1990s, was not up to code when it comes to the bed count (there are currently 30 beds and one holding cell), separating inmates by classification (there are now 17) and other operational matters. The DOC said it would work with the county on becoming compliant, but something has to be done, whether remodeling the current building or building a brand-new jail.
