<body><div><p> The Velus Jones Jr. era has come to an end. </p><p> Jones, a Chicago Bears third-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, has been placed on waivers. It is one o <a href="https://x.com/bearspr/status/1849909689334563188?s=46" rel="nofollow" target="_blank"> f two moves the Bears announced </a> on Friday, with the other being the release of fullback Khari Blasingame. On the surface, the moves clears a pair of roster spots for Bears players who are on injured reserve and are on the cusp of returning. And while we’ll get to that momentarily, I know the hook here is the team parting ways with Jones. </p><h2 class="wp-block-heading"> Bears finally cut their losses with Velus Jones Jr. </h2><p> How many second chances can a guy get? I’d have an answer to that question had I not lost count of how many <a href="https://www.bleachernation.com/bears/2024/09/13/velus-jones-jr-thin-ice/" rel="nofollow"> Velus Jones Jr. </a> was given while with the Bears. </p><figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img src="https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?type=thumbnail_580x000&amp;url=3o1m3X_0wMITxnf00" alt="https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?url=3o1m3X_0wMITxnf00" width="1210" height="600" ><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">© Jay Biggerstaff-USA TODAY Sports </figcaption></figure><p> A speedster who the Bears were hoping would be useful in a number of different areas never found his footing in Chicago. His experience as a wide receiver was underwhelming. The time he spent as a return specialist left much to be desired. An attempt to play running back was made during the preseason, but never truly found traction. Sometimes, things don’t work out with third-round picks. But this feels incredibly disappointing when you consider players who were taken after Jones in the draft. </p><p> As for Khari Blasingame, his time in Chicago comes to an end weeks after the offense began using offensive linemen in lead-blocking roles in front of running backs in short-yardage and goal-line situations. We’ll always be fond of Blasingame around here, if only because his arrival ushered in the return of the fullback after Matt Nagy dismissed the position altogether from 2019-21. </p><p> We’ll be keeping tabs on which players fill the vacancies created by Jones and Blasingame’s departures.
