Injury Update: Bulls Stay Healthy, Grizzlies Could Be Without Star (Ja Morant OUT)

    By Elias Schuster,

    UPDATE

The Memphis Grizzlies have officially announced that Ja Morant will sit against the Chicago Bulls tonight. The guard, who appeared in the team’s first three games of the year, is dealing with thigh soreness and entered the day as questionable.

No Morant should have the Bulls’ defense giving a slight sign of relief. Memphis has been one of the toughest teams to defend this year, playing with the NBA’s second-highest PACE and averaging over 30 free throw attempts per game. Morant is undoubtedly the catalyst for that uptempo and downhill attack.

Role player John Konchar will also miss his second-straight game due to soot soreness.

The Chicago Bulls have remained shockingly healthy through their first three games of the season. And, yes, I’ve already knocked on wood!

As they walk into their matchup with the Memphis Grizzlies this afternoon, not a single full-time roster member appears with an injury designation. Even Lonzo Ball is listed as available, who has played a total of 29 minutes this season as he works his way back from a two-year absence.

The only player who has seemingly come close to appearing on the injury report for Chicago is Coby White. During his 35-point explosion against the Milwaukee Bucks, Chicago Sports Network’s K.C. Johnson referred to a heating pad the guard would have on his thigh when exiting the game. White confirmed afterward that he has dealt with groin tightness since training camp. The 24-year-old said that, while it will take some time to heal, it hasn’t had a negative impact on his game. The Bulls must agree considering the lack of an injury tag.

    Bulls-Grizzlies Injury Report

While the Chicago Bulls enter tonight with a clean injury report, the Memphis Grizzlies can’t say the same. The team is already without 2023-24 breakout wing GG Jackson for quite some time due to foot surgery. Vince Williams Jr. is also expected to be sidelined for over a month due to a stress injury in his leg.

Most importantly, Ja Morant has now found his way onto the injury report and is questionable for this evening’s game against the Bulls. The superstar guard is dealing with right thigh soreness. He’s appeared in each of the team’s three games to begin the year after shoulder surgery ended his 2023-24 campaign early. Morant has averaged 20.7 points and 7.3 assists on 46.3 percent shooting from the field so far. His 8.7 free throw attempts per game also rank top 10 among players who have appeared in three contests thus far.

Role player John Konchar is also questionable heading into tonight with right foot soreness. He appeared in the first two games of the season before sitting out their victory over the Orlando Magic this weekend.
