The boys finished 8-0 in the regular season and won its third straight Super Essex Conference (SEC) championship, in the Liberty Division. The Bengals also finished fourth in the Essex County championship meet, as well as sixth in the Essex County Relays.
The Essex County coaches acknowledged a number of Bengals for post-season accolades.
Earning first-team, All-Essex honors were Charles Lisa, a senior, who broke his own school record in the pole vault by clearing 13 feet. Second team honors went to Alexander Travers, a junior, in the intermediate hurdles and the 4x400 relay team of Joshua Ibeh, a senior, sophomore Jeremy Tejada and juniors James Fields and Travers.
The girls were also outstanding, winning a fourth straight SEC Liberty crown. Bloomfield also finished third in the Essex County Relays, fifth in the county championship meet and seventh in the state sectionals.
Mercedes Cruz-Fletcher, a junior who ultimately earned a medal at the NJSIAA Meet of Champions, was named first team by the county coaches, in the 100 high hurdles. Victoria Feliciano, a senior, was second team for her performance, in the javelin.
Obviously, there were plenty of team awards, too.
For the girls, Mercedes Cruz-Fletcher was the team's overall MVP. Her accolades appear below.

For the boys, Charles Lisa was the team MVP. He was undefeated in the pole vault and finished first in the SEC, Essex County Relays (along with Nicholas Obiedzinski), county championship meet, state sectionals and took seventh in Group 4. He was also the Bloomfield High Athlete of the Month, for May and was honored with a scholarship from the Class of 1969 Cross Country/Track & Field.
