Charlie Woods finished the first round of the United States Golf Association Junior Amateur Championship shooting 12-over-par 82 in the first round.

Woods started early on Monday in the 2024 U.S. Junior Amateur at iconic Oakland Hills Country Club in Bloomfield Township, he teed off at 8:28 a.m. on the Donald Ross-designed North Course. He played alongside Alabama class of 2025 commit Chase Kyes, the No. 8-ranked boys junior according to The Universal Golf Rankings (TUGR) , and Baylor sophomore Davis Ovard, who won the North & South Amateur at Pinehurst No. 2 in June. They will play the more prestigious South Course on Tuesday at 1:48 p.m., as it makes its return to championship golf after a two-year restoration from 2019-21 that changed its entire complexion .

Woods was there with his famous dad, Tiger Woods, following from a short distance: Parents are not allowed to caddie for their child at the event. But Tiger got there Saturday, and walked with him during a Sunday practice round on the South Course.

TRENDING: Charlie Woods ready for his US Junior Am debut at Oakland Hills. Just ask his coach.

Charlie Woods is an underdog at 15 years old and the No. 763-ranked junior on TUGR . The 264-player field is competing over 36 holes of stroke play to determine the top 64 who advance to match play on the South Course, starting Wednesday morning. It will take five match play wins just to reach Saturday's daunting 36-hole final, with an exemption into the 2025 U.S. Open at Oakmont going to the victor.

The North Course, opened in 1923, plays around 6,808 yards as a par-70, and is 500 yards shorter than the South Course.
