Griffin was born in Peoria but lived in Bloomington and attended Bloomington Junior High School at the time of his death. According to his obituary, he was a member of the school's wrestling and football teams and enjoyed rapping and drawing. He is survived by his mother, grandmother, sister and three brothers.

His memorial service will be held at Wilton Mortuary in Peoria on July 15. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. The memorial service begins at 11 a.m.

Griffin was found drowned in the Illinois River near Bartonville on July 6.

Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood said Griffin had likely been in the water less than two days and there was no evidence of perpetuated trauma or injury on his body.

The Peoria County Sheriff's Department is still determining how he ended up in the river.
