FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Goeglein’s rolled out the red carpet for a handful of football legends from northeast Indiana.

Roosevelt Barnes, Bob Bergeron, Chris Dittoe, Chandler Harnish and Glen Steele were each inducted into the Indiana Football Hall of Fame during Monday’s festivities.

Barnes graduated from Wayne High School in 1977, helping the Generals win the program’s first sectional title in football. He went on to become a three-sport athlete in football, basketball and baseball at Purdue. During his time with the Boilermakers, Barnes enjoyed a run to the Men’s Final Four in 1980. In 1982, Barnes was drafted in the 10th round of the NFL Draft by Detroit. Following his pro football career, Barnes transitioned to become a sports agent.

Bergeron is a former placekicker that earned all-Big Ten accolades during his time at the University of Michigan. A Bishop Luers grad, Bergeron suited up with the Wolverines from 1980-1984. Bergeron was named to the first-team all-Big Ten in his junior season after converting 15-of-17 field goal attempts, including a game-winning 45-yard kick against Iowa.

Dittoe, a Bishop Dwenger grad, enjoyed a successful college football as a quarterback with Indiana University from 1993-1996. Afterwards, Dittoe got his shot in the NFL with the Detroit Lions before playing a couple season in NFL Europe. Dittoe is now the president and co-founder of his own public relations agency.

Harnish is one of the best athletes to hail from Norwell High School. With only one FBS scholarship offer from Northern Illinois, the quarterback parlayed that into a successful run with the Huskies. From 2007-2011, Harnish led the Huskies with 8,944 career passing yards, 68 touchdowns and 26 interceptions. After wrapping up his college career, Harnish was 2012’s Mr. Irrelevant in the NFL Draft, being selected with the 253rd and final pick by the Indianapolis Colts. Harnish carved out four years in the NFL as a backup quarterback with the Colts, Vikings and Cardinals.

Steele is arguably the most decorated athlete to hail from Ligonier. A West Noble High School grad, the defensive lineman suited up with at the University of Michigan from 1993-1997. In Steele’s senior season, Steele was named first-team All-American and first-team all-Big Ten while helping the Wolverines earn a national championship. Following his college career, Steele played six seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals.
