    Monroe County Backpack Blitz — school supply distribution

    The Salvation Army, along with local partners including Sherwood Oaks Christian Church and First United Methodist Church, are hosting their annual school supply distribution for Monroe County kindergarten to 12th-grade students. Volunteers are needed on Wednesday, July 31, to help greet and assist Monroe County Backpack Blitz participants select their backpack and school supplies. The last shift will require some packing, organizing and moving of left over equipment. Three shifts are available, 7:30 to 9:30 a.m., 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sign up today at https://tinyurl.com/backpack-blitz.     Autism Event Flyer distribution volunteers

    Autism Rocks and Rolls Corporation, a 501c3 nonprofit out of Monroe and Greene counties, is looking for volunteers to pass out flyers in the Bloomington and Bedford area between now and Aug. 1. The fliers are for the second annual Poker Run taking place on Aug. 2 in Bloomington. The money raised from the event will allow Autism Rocks and Rolls Corporation to continue to produce resources for the autism community.     Community Calendar crew member

    The WFHB Community Calendar is a vital resource that informs our community about events happening in the WFHB listening area. Concerts, author talks, artists openings, club meetings and more are added to the online Community Calendar by dedicated volunteers who wish to see south-central Indiana maintain a vibrant arts and culture scene. Calendar events are then read, on-air, by the programmers. Calendar crew members dedicate at least 2 hours per week to updating their website by managing an email inbox, as well as seeking out events in town using a variety of tools and resources.     New Hope Wish List

    Donations to New Hope For Families will directly benefit families in our community navigating the crisis of homelessness. Staff members work with families to make sure they have necessary essentials, food, and the support they need to move from homelessness to stable housing.

    Donations: Donation deliveries are accepted most weekdays 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Please call their office at 812-334-9840 in advance to arrange delivery.

    Featured Wishes: Immediate needs include bath towels, shampoo and conditioner (including natural hair care products), face wash, sunscreen, shelf-stable food (examples: peanut butter, crackers, canned beans), body wash, kids' adhesive bandages, diapers (sizes 4 to 6) and Pull-ups (any size), and also a special appeal for a donation of a 7+ passenger vehicle.
